I had nice things so long ago,
The house was big and warm.
And so much stuff to fill the rooms,
And protection from the storm.
An accident I learned one day,
My husband took a spill.
The house is gone and most our stuff,
Was shipped off to Good Will.
What little things I had left to spare,
came with us in a truck.
The new place that we found for us,
Had seemed like such great luck.
Though everyone was spared from harm,
A fire blazed away!
What little things that I had left,
Were burnt up on that day!
And so my minimalistic path,
wasn’t entirely all my own.
I think a certain ‘Entity’,
Had ideas of HIS own.
Carry what is on my back,
Be thankful for my bread.
Live a simple life and seek,
just a pillow for my head.
And that’s true freedom.
I learned it backpacking when I realized I could carry my bedroom and my kitchen and everything I needed in a 25 pound backpack.
Once in a while I miss something I used to own. But the feeling passes fast. The memories are what’s important.
Yup, you are so right on that. Just a few things and you’re good to go.
